Kuoni Specialist Travel UK has launched a dedicated birdwatching brochure to meet a growing demand for wildlife holidays, featuring a handpicked selection of 17 of the world`s top birdwatching destinations, including the Middle East, Asia, the Indian Ocean, Africa, the Caribbean and Central and Southern America. The brochure offers a superb selection of itineraries, with holidays operating in small groups, and tours being led by resident experts in each country.

Commenting on the brochure, Chris Hawkins, Director, Kuoni Specialist Travel says `In line with the trend for more experience-led holidays, we are finding that there is considerable demand for our birdwatching programme. The brochure enables clients to combine the excitement of longhaul travel to some of the world`s finest destinations – from the great sites of the pyramids or Machu Picchu, to the wonderful beaches of the Seychelles – with a favourite pastime. The beauty of such destinations is that they further enhance the whole experience of birdwatching, making for a unique and memorable holiday.

The tour guides are all leaders in their field – so whether clients are travelling to the forests and plains of Sri Lanka, the mangroves of Trinidad or the mountain valleys of Peru, they are assured of expert advice and guiding throughout, along with the handpicked quality accommodation for which Kuoni is renowned.`

Sample itineraries include:

Egypt: Birding the Delta, Estuary and River Nile, the Hills of Upper Egypt and Sinai.

As well as introducing clients to Egypt`s remarkable history, this tour gives them the chance to admire the many birds that still thrive in this unique environment. Travelling to Cairo, Saqqara, El Fayoum, the Nile Delta, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Lake Nasser, the High Dam, Sharm El Sheikh, Ras Mohamed National Park, the Nabaq Reserve, Mount Sinai and Ain Sukhna, clients can expect to see a range of species including heron, various eagles including the Pharoah Eagle-Owl, Golden, Steppe, Booted and Short-toed as well as Heron, Kite and the evocatively named Senegal thick-knee.

Gambia: Touring the Estuary, River and Adjacent Savannahs of the Gambia.

Often cited as the perfect introduction to Africa, the Gambia, at just five hours flight away, measures 400 miles from east to west, yet only 20 miles from north to south. The country is home to over 400 species of birds, and this 12 day tour will offer the chance to see a huge variety. The tour is based at the Sengambia Hotel for six nights, with day trips out to Abuko Nature Reserve, Tanji, Barfut and Makasuitu. It also includes overnight stays at Tendaba Camp, from where clients visit Kiang West National Park, and Janjanbureh Camp and Fulladu Camp – which are the stopover points as part of a cruise on the River Niger on board a local `pirogue` boat.
