Reflecting the success throughout the rest of the country, the capital Ljubljana also had an extremely successful tourist season this past year, hosting a record-breaking number of tourists throughout 2002. According to the data from both its Tourist Information Centres (TIC), a record high of 148,174 tourists visited their information facilities this year – 24 percent more than in 2001. Out of these 110,460 were foreign guests – 30 percent more than in the previous year.

The last days of December 2002 in particular, saw a significant increase in foreign tourism. Together the two TICs helped over 700 visitors daily. However this data is only one indicator of successful tourist activity, since not all foreign tourists seek additional information, particularly if they are familiar with the city. Among the local crowds awaiting the New Year out in the open on the streets of Ljubljana, many of our foreign guests decided to celebrate amid the crowds and activity. While most of these seemed to be Italian-speaking tourists, many Spanish, English and German-speaking voices could be heard as well. The Ljubljana Tourist Board was very satisfied with this year`s turnout.

As a safe tourist destination, removed from the threat of terrorism, Ljubljana is becoming an increasingly more desirable vacation spot for various tourist groups and individuals, simultaneously making plans for projects to help in the city`s development and growth.
