Singapore concludes open skies agreement with Portugal

Singapore and Portugal have concluded an Open Skies Agreement (OSA) on 27 February 2008, allowing for full flexibility on air services operated by carriers of both countries. The agreement was reached during air services consultations which took place from 26-27 February 2008 in Lisbon, Portugal betweem Civil Aviation Authority

Singapore and Portugal have concluded an Open Skies Agreement (OSA) on 27 February 2008, allowing for full flexibility on air services operated by carriers of both countries. The agreement was reached during air services consultations which took place from 26-27 February 2008 in Lisbon, Portugal betweem Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Instituto Nacional de Aviacao Civil (INAC).

This agreement will become fully effective in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Scheduling Season for Northern Summer in year 2010. It will enable Singapore carriers to operate flights as frequently as desired between Singapore and points in Portugal, as well as beyond Portugal to any other city in the world. Similarly, Portuguese carriers will be able to operate any number of services to and beyond Singapore.

CAAS’ Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lim Kim Choon said, “This agreement is a strong indication of Singapore and Portugal’s warm bilateral ties, and I am confident that it will allow our carriers the full flexibility to capitalise on future market opportunities."

With the Singapore – Portugal OSA, Singapore has concluded OSAs with more than 25 countries, including 14 in the European Union. As at 1 February 2008, Changi Airport is served by 82 airlines operating more than 4,360 weekly scheduled flights to 189 cities in 59 countries.
