The Halkidiki Hotel Association will be setting up its popular taverna once again in ExCel offering a selection of food and wine of the region. As with previous years the taverna will be brought over from Thessaloniki providing a much needed resting place.
The President of the Association, Makis Athanassopoulos, will be accompanied by a number of hotel owners, along with the governor of Halkidiki Mr Argyris Lafazanis, to talk about the development of their range of hotels, along with details of new tourist activities. They will also announce plans to encourage visitors to explore parts of Halkidiki new to tourism and to follow the wine routes of the area.
Halkidiki is Greece`s most popular mainland destination and is served by over 25 UK tour operators with flights to Thessaloniki from 11 UK airports. There are 520 kms of coastline around the peninsulas of Athos, Sithonia and Kassandra accounting for 34 Blue Flag Awards for clean beaches and sea. Major efforts to maintain high standards of cleanliness and environmental awareness will be continued for 2005.
Most popular excursions for visitors include: a boat trip around Mount Athos to view the Monasteries; a visit to the Petralona Caves; and a trip to Thessaloniki, the second largest city of Greece.
