Thessaloniki<.>`s Aristotelion University has undertaken the organisation of the 15th International Symposium of the European Committee of Transport Ministers, to take place in the northern port city on April 5-7, 2000.

An initiative of the economics department, it is supported by the transport and communications ministry and the university`s vice-chancellor.

The committee is made up of transport ministers from 35 European countries. Every three years it stages an international symposium on transport issues, the results of which are further developed at the Council of Transport Ministers and incorporated into decision-making.

The symposium brings together public sector and government representatives, university professors and research experts, along with high-level officials from international organisations, professional bodies and transport companies.

Its aim is to formulate and outline new ideas of current and future interest relating to the transport sector.

With 500 delegates from around 50 countries predicted to attend this significant event, the repercussions not only for the university and Thessaloniki but the whole of Greece are expected to be positive.
