The United Arab Emirates (UAE) participated in the 17th session of the Arab Executive Tourism Committee held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. The meeting praised the UAE in general and Dubai in particular for the tourism development and various initiatives undertaken to turn the emirate into a model destination.
The UAE delegation was headed by Mr. Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb, Director Operations and Marketing, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Vice Chairman of UAE Executive Committee for Tourism Promotion.
The other members of the delegation were Mr. Salah Rashid Al Ansari, DTCM Manager Visitors Information Bureau, and Mr. Waleed Al Jallaf, Tourism and Exhibitions Manager at the UAE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Social Development.
Mr. bin Hareb held discussions with some of the delegations which participated in the meeting and underscored the importance of intra-Arab tourism promotion.
He also highlighted the need for greater cooperation between the Arab countries and further energizing the efforts to consolidate tourism in the Arab world and strategies to promote the Arab world’s tourism attractions to the outside world as well.
The meeting discussed several issues and made recommendations. The meeting highlighted the importance of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism meeting to be held in Beirut in April 2007. It also recommended creation of contingency funds to support tourism in the Arab countries. It also recommended supporting Palestine to participate in exhibitions with Arab countries footing the expenses.
