DSF 2006 calendar of events unveiled by Dubai`s Department of Tourism

As tourists from different parts of the world converge in Dubai to be a part of its trend-setting shopping festival, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has prepared to evoke nostalgia through a series of events showcasing the emirate`s rich cultural past and traditions.



The DTCM Manager Events, Mr Marwan bin Beyat said: Dubai Shopping Festival is an excellent opportunity to recreate Dubai `s rich cultural traditions and this year we have planned a series of special events that will highlight and document the country`s ancient history.



The Marine Heritage Festival, meant to revive and showcase Dubai`s sea-faring tradition will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Dubai Creek. Special boats, each measuring 22 ft each will compete with each other as they set sail on the waters of the Dubai creek. The boat races will be held on January 6, 20 and February 2 at 4 p.m.



The Marine Forum will open on January 4 at the Diving Village displaying Dubai`s ethnic marine handicrafts, arts, habits and traditions. Also on the anvil are marine exhibitions, marine folklores, handicrafts which are expected to be a major draw for the visitors. The doors of the Marine Forum will remain open to the public.



The Dubai Neighbourhood at the Al Shindagha Square is a locality project comprising of traditional houses reminiscent of the past. Visitors to the Al Shidagha Square will be treated to a journey down the memory lane with glimpses of a courtyard, ancient coffee houses, general seating, ancient mosques.



For the first time in the history of the DSF, Jordan`s history and culture will be showcased at an exhibition at the Shaikh Saeed Al Maktoum House daily from January 4 to February 4. The exhibition will help cement the endearing relationship that Dubai has always shared with Jordan .



Adjacent to the Shaikh Saeed Al Maktoum`s house is an exhibition of Shaikh Zayed, an enduring legacy of the great visionary leader who led Dubai through the high path of success. The exhibition will remain open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily on all the days of the DSF 2006.



Also included in the calendar of events are the Glow Display that will reflect the generous equations of the Islamic religion with other religions to be held at the Shaikh Obaid bin Thani House and the Arabian Horse Exhibition at the heritage Village .



There will also be shows organised by children to meant to recreate the Arabian cultural magic at the Heritage Village Theatre, Folklore Groups activities and the Hatta Heritage Festival at the Hatta Village daily on all the days of the Dubai Shopping Festival.



Mr. Khalid Ali bin Gharib, Manager, Heritage Village said : It is an important time for us, since a large number of tourists visit the Hritage Village during the DSF and all efforts are being made to present Dubai `s past traditions in an exciting platter of events.
