Ten prominent and leading UK tour operators are currently in Dubai courtesy Dubai Synergy, an innovative educational visit programme launched by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

The ground-breaking initiative, launched in May 2003, will give more than 70 meetings and incentive travel organisers based in the UK and Ireland an opportunity to visit Dubai till April 2004.

The DTCM Manager Mission, Mr. Hamad bin Mejren, said :The visit of UK’s 70 meetings and incentive travel organizers under the Dubai Synergy will help to further raise awareness about Dubai’s MICE sector.

He added: They will be acquainted with the comprehensive range of facilities being offered by the emirate’s MICE sector, which is fully-equipped to cater to all kinds of international meetings and conventions.

He stated that the DTCM through its Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB) has been highly successful in establishing the emirate as an international business tourism destination.

The DCB through its extensive networking and comprehensive planning has successfully attracted major international players to hold conferences and exhibitions in the emirate. The successful conduct of such meetings and conferences is bound to attract many more such events to the emirate, said Mr. bin Mejren.

He said that the visiting group was given a visual treat as they witnessed the new developments in the emirate.

The visit offered them an insight into Dubai’s strategic planning and provided details that will place the emirate on the top place as one of the most sought after destination in terms of developments, infrastructure and facilities, added Mr. bin Mejren.

He said that the travel organisers are briefed about the works and achievements of the DTCM regionally as well as internationally.

Organizing and assisting such visits is one of the integral strategies of the department to promote Dubai’s business as well as tourism sectors and in turn boost the emirate’s image as an all purpose destination, he added.

Barbel Kirchner, Director of the DTCM UK and Ireland office, was present with the group and played a pivotal role in targeting and attracting the meetings and incentive travel organisers to Dubai.

The carefully planned itineraries for each group are innovative as well as varied. The itinerary included Dubai’s latest developments such as Dubai International Convention Centre, in addition to major infrastructure projects including The Palm, Dubai Marina and Dubai Festival City among others.

The DTCM had taken up this programme in conjunction with the Emirates and Gulf Air, 18 hotels and eight UK-based DMC representatives, to raise awareness of Dubai as one of the most rapidly developing and advanced meetings and incentive destinations.

Dubai Synergy forms part of the DTCM’s plan to demonstrate the emirate’s facilities and amenities in order to attract and increase its share of this lucrative market.
