Russian tourism ministry halts tour package sales to Egypt

According to preliminary data, right now in Egypt there are 50,000 Russian tourists, of which more than half of them are spending their holidays in Hurghada.

MOSCOW – The Federal Tourism Agency of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation has imposed a restriction on Russian tour operators from selling package tours to Egypt because of the incessant disorders which have developed into military operations.

Earlier the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation also recommended Russians refrain from trips on the Egyptian resorts, because of collisions of the authorities and Islamists occuring at popular locations among travelers from Russia, such as Hurghada.

The Ministry recommended to those tourists who have already scheduled a holiday in Egypt not to leave their hotels in the evening. From 1900 to 0600 hours, a curfew has been instituted in 11 provinces of Egypt.
