The M.A. Kharafi Group has announced that Egyptair has commenced direct scheduled flight services from Cairo to Marsa Alam International Airport, that has been developed by the Kuwaiti group under a 40 year BOT concession as the new international gateway airport to Egypt’s South Red Sea and the Marsa Alam Coast.

James Pringle, Chief Executive for the Group’s developments in the Marsa Alam area noted that Egyptair is the first airlines to commence operation of domestic regularly scheduled flight services to Marsa Alam from Cairo, thereby further opening this magnificent area to access by global tourism through a Cairo transit link. Egyptair’s scheduled flight service to Marsa Alam is a key element in opening the area to wider access by international tourists and source markets, as well as providing easy and appealing access to the area by the domestic tourism market.

Marsa Alam International Airport serves Egypt’s South Red Sea area which includes nearly 3,500 resort rooms plus an extensive fleet of safari dive boats operating from Port Ghalib – the mega resort community that is 5 kilometers from the Marsa Alam International Airport and also being developed by the M.A. Kharafi Group and other investors including the world reknowned destination resort developer, Sun International.

Pringle further noted that the Marsa Alam Coast is a virgin area that includes some of the best coral and marine life diving sites in the world easily accessible from Port Ghalib, great sports fishing opportunities, and it is backed by beautiful desert and mountains where the trekker – be they on foot, horseback, camel or jeep – can find rare and unique wild life as well as rich historical sites that span Egypt’s history. Adding to this the proximity of Egypt’s Nile Valley pharaonic monuments – only two hours away – and you have a wonderful unique area for tourism and tourism development.

The M.A. Kharafi Group obviously wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Minister of Civil Aviation and to Egyptair for having taken this positive step forward – a step that provides a crucial air service link to enhancing Egypt’s tourism appeal and performance and to enhancing the destination and investment appeal of the Marsa Alam area.
