America West Airlines, and Royal Jordanian, are pleased to announce the expansion of the only nonstop service between the U.S. and Jordan. The enhancements will increase flight options during the busy summer season, making it even more convenient for customers to schedule connecting flights between the U.S. and Jordan via each of the three gateway cities served by Royal Jordanian in the U.S. — New York/JFK, Chicago/O`Hare, and Detroit

The expansion starts May 23, when twice-weekly service to Detroit begins operating nonstop in both directions, replacing the one-stop service used during the winter. Effective June 1 service to New York`s JFK airport will be increased to five times per week. Finally, on June 19 nonstop service to Chicago O`Hare will be increased to four times per week, with all flights operating nonstop in both directions. Full schedule details for the summer season are provided below. All flights will be operated by Royal Jordanian and jointly marketed by America West under the two carriers` code-share agreement

America West is the only U.S. carrier able to market nonstop service between the U.S. and Jordan, said Scott Kirby, America West executive vice president of sales and marketing. Unlike other low-cost carriers, America West is able to complement our strong domestic network with international alliances, and these additional flights will strengthen our code-share service with Royal Jordanian.

Hussein Dabbas, head of marketing and sales for Royal Jordanian, said U.S.-based passengers can save hours of valuable time by choosing our nonstop flights instead of connecting over Europe. Royal Jordanian has been flying to the U.S. for 28 years and this summer we are excited to be offering the most flights ever between the U.S. and Jordan.

Service between the U.S. and Jordan is provided on board state-of-the-art Airbus A340-200s. Business-class passengers will revel in the luxury aboard the A340, enjoying first-class amenities at business-class fares. Passengers can count on plenty of uninterrupted rest with noise-canceling headphones, 83 inches of seat pitch, and sleeper seats that recline 180 degrees to a virtually flat position. Each seat has an independent video screen featuring 14 video channels. Four-course meals are standard, and snacks are available at any time during the flight.

The economy cabin layout is a 2-4-2 configuration, meaning no passenger is ever more than one seat away from an aisle. Economy-class seating provides a generous 34 inches of space between seats; most international airlines only provide 31-32 inches.

America West and Royal Jordanian entered into a comprehensive marketing alliance in 2004 that included reciprocal code-sharing, frequent-flyer benefits and lounge access rights. Under the agreement America West places its code on Royal Jordanian flights between New York/JFK, Chicago/O`Hare and Detroit and Amman, Jordan and Royal Jordanian code-shares on certain America West domestic flights.
