With the summer season upon us and flights to Tassie “hotting up” Tiger Airways is about to notch up 350,000 passengers on the Hobart – Melbourne service. To celebrate the milestone and cater for extra demand, Tiger Airways has added additional Hobart – Melbourne services throughout December 2010 and January 2011.
The 350,000 passenger milestone is a significant achievement for Tiger Airways which entered the Hobart market in 2008.
Tiger Airways currently provides services between Hobart – Melbourne twice daily but the summer schedule sees up to three daily flights on the popular route.
Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director, Crawford Rix, says this is a great achievement as the airline continues to grow “in leaps and bounds. As the fastest growing major domestic airline in Australia, we’re celebrating a number of milestones such as our six millionth passenger, which flew with us recently on 10 November 2010 and we’re looking forward to taking delivery of three new A320 aircraft in the coming months. Hobart is a popular destination, especially over summer. As an airline that evolves based on demand, the more people that fly with us, the more chance there is that we can consider new opportunities to expand our Tassie services,” he says.
Hobart Airport Chief Executive Officer Brett Reiss congratulated Tiger Airways on their achievement and welcomed the additional capacity in response to strong demand.
Mr Reiss said “Tiger now provides a number of daily service options between Hobart and Melbourne.” He added “Tiger is established in the market with over one third of a million passengers flying the sector in the last three years.”
