Airport hotel developed in cooperation between Budapest Airport and WING Zrt

Placing the time capsule for the first hotel with direct access to Budapest Airport are: Gilles Clavie, Chairman-CEO, Orbis Group operating Accor Hotels in Eastern Europe; Rene Droese, Director Business Unit Property, Budapest Airport; Noah Steinberg, Chairman-CEO, WING Zrt; Jost Lammers, CEO, Budapest Airport; and Gero Janos, Deputy CEO, WING Zrt.

The hotel, developed in cooperation between Budapest Airport and WING Zrt, will be erected on the site of the external car park in front of Terminal 2.

The time capsule of the first hotel in Hungary with direct airport terminal access was placed at Ferenc Liszt International Airport this week. The 145-room ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel, also featuring conference facilities, is scheduled for completion in 18 months.

The hotel, developed in cooperation between Budapest Airport and WING Zrt, will be erected on the site of the external car park in front of Terminal 2. Grading works and the installation of the required infrastructure have commence several months ago by Budapest Airport, with construction works of the hotel building itself starting over the last few days by the contractor Market Epito. Connected to Terminal 2 via a covered walkway, the new hotel will allow passengers to walk directly from the hotel over to the airport. On completion, the developers will hand over the hotel to the Ibis Style hotel chain, a member of the Accor group, for operation.

According to plans, the 5,200m² five-level hotel, featuring an atrium, will offer 145 rooms reflecting the airport vibe and the trends of contemporary interior design, as well as offering several conference rooms for business conventions. The 350m² conference section, which can be divided into two separate rooms, can accommodate 120 people, and will also offer smaller seminar rooms and a separate meeting room for business travellers.

The F&B unit of the Ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel will comprise of a restaurant for 100 patrons and a lobby bar. The restaurant and the bar will be capable of catering for the needs of hotel guests as well as external guests –transfer passengers–from the airport who would like to use the restaurant or the bar of the hotel between flights. The hotel is also a perfect location for Hungarian businessmen to hold meetings with foreign partners at the airport.

“With the new airport hotel we continue to enhance the profile of Budapest Airport and strengthen our competitiveness in the region. The record two-digit growth of the last few years, which also continues this year, makes the timely implementation of this hotel project even more crucial,” underlined Jost Lammers, CEO, Budapest Airport. He added: “The construction of the new hotel is an organic part of our 50-billion-HUF airport development program called BUD 2020. Among the guests of the hotel we will find businesspeople, participants of conferences, and tourists on weekend city breaks, as well as airline crew spending the night in Budapest.”

The investor of the building is WING Zrt, the Hungarian market leader in commercial real estate development. Its chairman-CEO, Noah Steinberg, said: “The property sector is an important element of the Hungarian national economy, and it is crucial to have professional and financially strong Hungarian companies which are operated successfully in this sector. WING is indeed such a Hungarian company which now is about to erect the first airport hotel of Budapest in cooperation with Budapest Airport. The new hotel will be one of the first impressions foreigners will have when arriving in Hungary. It has a key role for tourists and business travellers as well as passengers departing from Hungary. WING –similarly to the rest of its buildings–will implement a world-class structure, and will provide world-class service at the airport of the Hungarian capital.”

Gilles Clavie, chairman-CEO, Orbis Group operating Accor hotels in Eastern Europe, emphasised at the event: “I’m really proud that the Hungarian subsidiary of Orbis Group – Accor-Pannonia Hotels Zrt was awarded the right of operation of the first airport hotel in Budapest. The Hungarian capital has an important role to play in our region, we are committed to its development, to which we intend to contribute via further extension of our existing chain of hotels. The hotel at the airport will be operated under the dynamic and well-known ibis Styles brand name, just recently introduced in the Hungarian market, offering a new kind of hotel experience to our guests,” said Clavie.
