The Gallery HBA is recognised in the prestigious Contract Interiors Awards

Conceived by King Alfonso XIII, Hotel Alfonso XIII opened in 1929 and was an essential stopover during the “Golden Age of Travel”.

LONDON – The Gallery HBA has received a further award, this time for its reinvention of the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville, which has won the Hotel category of Contract magazine’s 35th Annual Interiors Awards. Held since 1979, the Interiors Awards offer recognition in an array of market sectors and are judged by a select group of respected design industry leaders.

Conceived by King Alfonso XIII, Hotel Alfonso XIII opened in 1929 and was an essential stopover during the “Golden Age of Travel”. The designers’ brief was to restore and refurbish the historic protected areas while also completely reimagining key spaces. The seductive result mixes the cultural inheritance of this Andalucian landmark with the style of the Art Deco era in which the hotel was built. The designers chose a bold palette inspired by the vibrant, elaborate costumes of matadors, flamenco dancers and tales of legendary lover Don Juan, creating a narrative that celebrates both rugged masculinity and dark, mysterious female charms.

The Contract Award joins an already impressive tally of tributes The Gallery HBA has won to date for their transformation of this iconic hotel including a Gold Key Award (Best Hotel Renovation), Boutique Design Award (Best Hotel), Travel + Leisure ‘It List’ and Conde Nast Spain (Best Urban Spanish Hotel).

Commenting on Hotel Alfonso XIII, the jury felt “A consistent design enhances the history of the hotel, without being too literal or heavy handed. As all classic hotels should, this hotel reflects a spirit of place, the romance of travel, and the hope of an exotic experience.” And Koen Van Malder, design project director of Starwood’s Europe, Africa, and Middle East division, said “The renovation has been an exceptional upgrade for the entire hotel, so our guests are delighted with all the spaces.”

International winners, selected by a jury of industry leaders from hundreds of project submissions, travelled to New York to receive the coveted award at the Interiors Awards Breakfast on Friday, January 24.
