The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC<.>)is looking to capitalise on its market advantage with the appointment of a new association sales team. One of its first tasks will be to refocus the company`s sales and marketing strategy to accommodate the changing association market as well as the developing international situation.

Following its best ever year in 2000, with financial targets in its sights for 2001 and with 2002 sales in good shape, the EICC hopes to consolidate the position of Edinburgh in the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) rankings and also make an operational profit on schedule, as forecast, in 2003.

Sales Team Leader Lesley Stephen underlined the determination of the EICC to become an increasingly important player in the world market. We have an excellent opportunity to view the market in a radically different way. It is always difficult when experienced and long-serving staff leave the company, however in Hillary and Jane we have a wealth of experience that puts the sales team in a very strong position.

Key changes to the sales, marketing and PR strategies will be:

  • Increased direct liaison with clients and potential clients
  • Increased commitment to sales missions both in the UK and Europe
  • Unifying the marketing and PR strategies behind a more focused sales drive
  • Mirroring the increasingly proactive approach taken by the corporate sales team

Lesley Stephen continued: We have an excellent record at attracting some of the world`s major events. However, we are not content to sit back and rest on our laurels. More and more we will be seeking out new business and to constantly put pressure on our sales targets. The appointment of Hillary and Jane has come at a good time and has had the effect of re-energizing the whole team.

The new association team comprises Hillary Bett and Jane Kelly.

  • Hillary joins the EICC team after more that 15 years varied and diverse experience that has included: telesales for Scottish & Newcastle breweries; Banqueting Coordinator for the Balmoral Hotel; Corporate & Incentives Manager for the Caledonian Hotel; two years in insurance sales as well as spells as Sales Manager for the Murrayfield Stadium and Leith`s, the EICC`s contracted catering company
  • Multi-lingual Jane has spent a good part of her working life abroad having had spells in the Maldives, Sardinia, Venice and, latterly, in Dubai working first with travel company Kuoni, and then for the Meridian Hotel selling Dubai as a destination and conference destination

Hillary commented on her appointment. I think it`s really important that Jane and I come from quite radically different backgrounds because it gives us a ry fresh perspective on the industry. We;re able to work off of each othnd not to the job with any preconceptionst;.

Jane added: t;Our first task has been to thoroughly review all business on our books – which means up2011 for tentative bookings. Our immediate twill be tn new sales 2004 and beyond wh working increasingly closelyh our Edinburgh partners in orderensure a very strong City message is factored into all ourk

The ofd Hiy takes effecttely. They join Sean Denny, Melanie Grievd Fiona Halliburton whom corporate s team, as wellTeam Leader Lesley Stephen.
