Australians are big spenders in Singapore

VISA International presented its first tourist spending report on Singapore

VISA International presented its first tourist spending report on Singapore, and revealed cardholders from Australia spent the most in Singapore, followed by cardholders from the US, the UK, Indonesia and Japan.

In total, overseas Visa cardholders spent about US$1 billion (S$1.7 billion) last year, representing 25 per cent of Singapore`s total tourism spend. The bulk of the expenditure was at local retailers, and subsequently on accommodation, transport services, clothing and medical services.

Visa International country manager for Singapore and Malaysia, Mr Dennis Ng, said: Visa`s data seems to reflect some of the underlying strengths Singapore has as a travel destination – high quality medical services, competitive technology products and growing status as the airline hub of South-east Asia.

The Singapore report is part of a regional research study that covers Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and Thailand.
