Baboo becomes the first airline to operate the Embraer 190 into London City Airport

For the first time in its history, London City Airport (LCY) welcomed the first ever commercial flight of the Embraer 190. And it is Baboo that shares the honour as the first ever airline to operate a Geneva-London City flight with one of its three 100-seater E190 jets.

This is a major achievement for Geneva-based Baboo as well as for the whole team at LCY. After a long and stringent process, the E190, fitted with a steep approach option has just been certified for this airport as announced by Embraer on 2nd February 2010. Barely ten days after obtaining certification, Baboo becomes the first airline to fly the aircraft in, replacing the Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 that normally serves this route.

“Today is a real milestone for us” said a delighted Jacques Bankir, CEO of Baboo. “From the very beginning we chose the steep approach option for our three E190s with the express intention of operating into airports with short runways. We are especially proud to be the first to operate this aircraft, the most comfortable and popular regional jet, into this most user-friendly airport” concludes Jacques Bankir.

Baboo operates eleven weekly flights between Geneva and London City with the 74-seater Dash 8-Q400 since 25th October 2009. Today London is the number one destination from Geneva.
