Lufthansa German Airlines has launched a new direct service between Kuala Lumpur and Munich in Germany starting on 31 October. The aircraft used for the service features Lufthansa`s groundbreaking new Business Class, as well as FlyNet, a new broadband Internet on board service being pioneered by Lufthansa worldwide.

The new service operates four times a week, departing Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2050 local time, and arriving in Munich at 0535 the next morning. On its return leg it departs Munich on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 2115 local time, and arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 1825 the following day. The flights include a short stopover in Bangkok.

The route is operated by Lufthansa`s state-of-the-art Airbus A340-600 which is equipped with the airline`s new Business Class. The new Business Class includes a revolutionary two-metre long PrivateBed, the longest seat/bed in its class. PrivateBed is a complete new seat concept with a unique programme of entertainment and information, giving passengers plenty of space to stretch out, relax and have a good sleep.

Shortly after the launch of the new route, the aircraft will also feature FlyNet broadband Internet access which is being introduced by Lufthansa in partnership with Connexion by Boeing. Passengers can use FlyNet to surf the World Wide Web, send and receive emails with attachments, or set up a secure data connection to their company`s Intranet or mail server via a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Lufthansa is the first airline worldwide to offer broadband Internet access service.

Christopher Chang, Lufthansa German Airlines General Manager Malaysia, said, We are very pleased to introduce direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Munich. Munich is ideally located at the heart of central Europe and offers a tremendous variety of tourism and business options as well as offering travellers from Asia a wealth of excellent connections around Europe and beyond. Being able to introduce the new route along with our groundbreaking new innovations, FlyNet and our new Business Class, shows how we are striving to bring quality and innovation to our passengers.

More flights between Europe and Asia Pacific

The launch of the new Munich-Kuala Lumpur service is part of Lufthansa`s Winter Schedule for 2004/05 which includes a significant increase in flights from Munich to Asia Pacific destinations. During the Winter Schedule, which begins 31 October, the number of flights from the southern German city to Asia Pacific rises from 29 to 43 each week.

In addition to new flights between Kuala Lumpur and Munich, there are also seven new flights a week between Bangkok and Munich, and three new flights a week between Ho Chi Minh City and Munich.

Overall, during the new Winter Schedule, Lufthansa has increased the number of flights it offers to passengers in Asia Pacific to 147 a week

to/from 19 destinations in 10 countries.

A new destination joins the Lufthansa network: Hyderabad

Another highlight of Lufthansa`s new Winter Schedule 2004/05 is the launch of a new service between Frankfurt and Hyderabad. From 18 February 2005, Lufthansa passengers will be able to fly non-stop between Hyderabad and Frankfurt three times a week. Hyderabad is the capital of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and has a thriving information technology and biotechnology industry.

The launch of the Hyderabad service will increase the number of Lufthansa destinations in India to five. The airline already flies to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.
