gategroup runs the world’s first electrically powered highloader and drives towards a greener tarmac

gategroup presents the world’s first operational electrically powered highloader at the inter airport Europe fair in Munich.

MUNICH – gategroup presents the world’s first operational electrically powered highloader at the inter airport Europe fair in Munich this week, before putting it to use on the tarmac. The highloader will be on display until October 11, 2013. Visitors will be able to get a close up look at the functionality behind this innovation, including the vehicle’s intelligent drive assistance and gross weight capacity of 18 tonnes.

Instantly recognisable with its bright green cab, the highloader will be in use throughout Europe by Gate Gourmet, a subsidiary of gategroup. It will become a part of the company’s global fleet of 1,900 highloaders in 130 locations.

Bernhard Rabian, Vice President of Group Procurement in Europe and Africa, at gategroup, says “We are so proud to be a part of innovation projects such as this. Through our long-standing collaboration with one our key partners, we were able to combine our in-depth understanding of how to service aircraft with their extensive technical expertise in building the vehicles to make that possible.”

Norbert van den Berg, Chief Operations Excellence & Compliance Officer, and heading Corporate Social Responsibility at gategroup, says “It is exciting to have the opportunity to contribute towards greener airport environments, and being the first to have an electrically powered highloader on the tarmac is a testament to our company’s commitment in this direction.”

The technology, developed in collaboration with DOLL Fahrzeugbau and German E-Cars GmbH, will increase vehicle efficiency and enable emission-free aircraft loading, driving Gate Gourmet’s customers towards a greener tarmac.
