eDreams expands to Greece

Europe's biggest online travel agency will start operating in Eastern Europe's second biggest market, a mosaic of more than 2,000 islands where travel is key.

BARCELONA, SPAIN – Europe’s leading online travel agency, eDreams, takes another step forward in its international expansion plans with its arrival in Greece, the second biggest market in Eastern Europe. The country’s more than 2,000 islands mean travel is very important for its 11 million inhabitants, leading the company to decide to commit to Greece as part of its strategic international growth plan.

The new webpage, gr.edreams.com, is an online travel agency that has been fully adapted to the Greek market, with specific products for the country and Greek as the standard language both on the website and in customer services. “Over the years, we have seen how important it is to adapt our product to the particular characteristics of the different countries in order to provide the best quality service”, says eDreams co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Mauricio Prieto. This is one of the key elements that have allowed the Spanish company to be present in 30 countries and enjoy one of the sector’s highest repetition rates. “Seventy per cent of the agency’s customers make another purchase within 12 months,” he added.

The new website provides Greek tourists with the full eDreams offering – flights with more than 100 airlines on 60,000 different routes and more than 240,000 hotels in 40,000 destinations worldwide, as well as vehicle rental companies with the most competitive prices – something that the company’s more than 14 million customers truly appreciate. “eDreams is a leader in low cost ticket and travel sales and this will doubtless be welcomed by the Greek people, who will see an improvement in their opportunities for travel,” said Prieto.

The company’s arrival in Greece is not limited to the launch of the new website; in the coming months, Greek tourists will also get access to all the benefits of mobile commerce. eDreams has announced that its R&D&I team is currently working closely on developing the app for the new market, with which the company aims to cover all the needs of today’s traveller. “The mobile channel has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the tourism industry, of which companies need to take advantage if they want to be competitive in the sector”, stressed the company’s co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer. “Thanks to m-commerce, we have increased sales in our traditional markets by more than 200%”.

With this expansion, the online travel agency eDreams will cover all the world’s important markets accessible via its language offering of English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Greek and Turkish. The company continues to work to diversify its business geographically, extending its presence worldwide and positioning itself as an attractive option for users through its combination of offering and price.
