SCTDA celebrates 2013 as a year of achievements

The year 2013 had the tourism and hospitality sector in the Emirate register an impressive growth, developing at a steady and encouraging pace in addition to making progress on major tourism projects.

SHARJAH – The Year 2013 has been a year of achievements for both Sharjah and the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. Last year saw the Emirate set in motion preparations for celebrating Sharjah’s crowning as the Capital of Islamic Culture for Year 2014. The year also had the tourism and hospitality sector in the Emirate register an impressive growth, developing at a steady and encouraging pace in addition to making progress on major tourism projects.

This came in the speech of HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority at the SCTDA Annual Staff Appreciation Ceremony held in the picturesque setting of Al Rabia Camp on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, to celebrate the success of 2013 and honour the employees who performed exceptionally well and made a difference.

Al Noman emphasised that more than a formal annual affair, the SCTDA Staff Appreciation Ceremony is an occasion to review and retrospect about the year gone by and to celebrate all that the Authority has accomplished as a team and look to the future for more.

On this occasion, Al Noman thanked His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for his guidance and leadership and His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, for his continuous support to the Authority and its activities.

“All plans, policies and goals of the Authority are inspired by the vision and translate the directions of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah,” he pointed out saying it’s His Highness’s vision that drives Sharjah’s progress in various sectors, including economic growth and sustainable development in the emirate earning itself its rightful place.

The Chairman observed that the Authority’s year-long campaign to promote Sharjah as a global family destination with authentic Arab and Islamic heritage at home and around the world has been remarkably successful. Besides, the participation in international trade exhibitions and forums in order to showcase the best of Sharjah and enhance its profile in world tourism market has been better than ever with the Authority earning itself many laurels at major exhibitions around the world.

He referred to the amazing success that the Authority’s flagship events- the Sharjah Light Festival and Sharjah Water Festival and UIM F1H20 World Powerboat Championship, Sharjah Grand Prix – once again registered.

Thanking the SCTDA team, Al Noman emphasised that this continuing success would not have been possible without their sincerity, dedication and sustained efforts. “I hope and I am confident that this culture of excellence will continue in the future as Sharjah sets its eyes on bigger targets and success as a global tourism and investment destination with a difference, especially when the Emirate is being celebrated as the Capital of Islamic Culture,” he added.

Al Noman also said that the Authority is committed to the welfare and all-round professional growth of each staff member and is constantly working towards this goal by organising professional training and orientation and personal development programme from time to time. In this respect, he referred to the just concluded 1½ year-long Tourism Management Program that the Authority organised for its senior staff in association with the American University of Sharjah.

On this occasion, Al Noman welcomed new members who have joined the SCTDA in the last year and contributed with their experiences. He concluded by thanking everyone for the Authority’s success and growth during the last year and all these years. “The credit for this success belongs to you and our team spirit. As we go from here we are keen to sustain it in years to come, setting new standards of growth,” he added.
