Momondo finds Amsterdam top October half-term destination for Britons

Amsterdam has come first, as the most-searched destination for Britons looking for an autumn getaway in 2015.
This week travel search site momondo.co.uk analysed all of their flight search results made over the last 18 months, for travel departing during week 43 of this year – so 17th – 24th October, when the UK’s schools have broken up for half-term.

Portugal’s Lisbon came in second-most searched, with Germany’s Berlin in close third.

Spokesperson at momondo, Lasse Skole Hansen, states: “A very short hop from London, at just over an hour’s flight time, Amsterdam is one of the closest mini-break destinations for Brits and a city full of charm. With its romantic canals, grand museums and galleries, Amsterdam can satisfy all types of travellers. Our data shows that European city destinations are the preferred choice for Brits this autumn.”

This year’s list is distinctly different from last year’s – when Amsterdam wasn’t even placed in the top ten. Bangkok was the most-searched destination for the October half-term, followed by New York and then Istanbul. Interestingly though, New York was the one destination that made it on both lists – coming in eighth most-popular this year for half-term,” states Skole Hansen.
