Oman Air celebrates its first flight into Nairobi

The four times weekly flight to Nairobi operated by a Boeing 737-800, is Oman Air’s first service to Kenya.

Oman Air, the national carrier for the Sultanate of Oman celebrated the launch of its inaugural flight WY721 to Nairobi, Kenya on March 28, 2017.  

The four times weekly flight to Nairobi operated by a Boeing 737-800, is Oman Air’s first service to Kenya. The flight will open up easy access to Oman Air’s outstanding range of destinations for customers from Kenya as well as helping to strengthen political, economic and social links between Oman and Kenya.    

At Nairobi there will be convenient connections to other points in Africa in cooperation with Kenyan Airways. In Muscat the guests can avail excellent connections offered by Oman Air to its destinations in the Far East, Indian Subcontinent, Europe and GCC countries.

Said Bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport and Communication for Ports and Maritime Affairs joined the Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer of Oman Air, Abdulrahman Al Busaidy and other dignitaries in a cake cutting ceremony at Muscat International Airport, to celebrate the inaugural flight which departed from Muscat at 1450 on 28th March. The five-hour flight landed in Nairobi at 1855 local time, where the Oman Air delegation was met by Fatuma Hirsi, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Kenya. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta airport and a welcome address by the Oman Air’s Deputy CEO and Executive Vice President- Commercial, Abdulrahman Al Busaidy.  

The press conference and the gala dinner at the Kempinski Villa Rose, Nairobi were attended by high ranking dignitaries from the Kenyan Government, travel trade and media. The chief guest for the evening Honourable Najib Balala, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Kenya was welcomed by Abdulrahman Al Busaidy along with the rest of the Omani delegation. 

The capital is one of Kenya’s most dynamic cities with a vibrant cultural life, fabulous places to eat and exciting locations to visit.  

Oman Air’s Deputy CEO and Executive Vice President – Commercial, Abdulrahman Al Busaidy said: “The launch of this route is a significant milestone for Oman Air and is in direct response to customer demand. Oman and Kenya have been trading for many years and there have been recent moves between both countries to increase the synergies between both countries and build on the rising level of trade. We are confident that this latest expansion by Oman Air will help develop growing relations between both countries and also increase tourism and VFR traffic between our two nations.” 

The launch of the new route demonstrates Oman Air’s commitment to continuing it ambitious and dynamic programme of fleet and network expansion and on board service developments. This has seen the company take delivery of outstanding new aircraft, introduce a range of exciting new destinations and launch new products and services which contribute to a seamless passenger experience.
