SSP wins £90 million contract at Dusseldorf Airport

The agreement will pave the way for a number of firsts for German airports, including two concepts from UK celebrity chef Jamie Oliver – Jamie's Deli by Jamie Oliver and Jamie's Coffee Van.

SSP, a leading operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide, has been awarded a seven-year contract valued at approximately £90 million to operate eight food and beverage outlets, as well as a state-of-the-art conference centre at Dusseldorf Airport. The outlets will open between 2017 and 2019.

The agreement will pave the way for a number of firsts for German airports, including two concepts from UK celebrity chef Jamie OliverJamie’s Deli by Jamie Oliver and Jamie’s Coffee Van. In addition, SSP will be opening a new concept by German TV chef Tim Malzer called Hausmann’s. This full service restaurant, designed in vintage style, will serve a contemporary German menu. Locally renowned names including French-inspired cafe and patisserie Epi, and Italian family-restaurant ‘4 Cani’ will also feature, as well as international fast food brand KFC.

The brand mix will be completed by a number of bespoke concepts showcasing the cuisine and culture of the Dusseldorf area, and crafted to meet the needs of its airport’s passengers. Among these is Carls, named after the city’s famous Carlsplatz food market, which is a modern-style cafe and bar, where travellers can order via tablets and are entertained by an over-sized interactive LCD screen. At the Middle-Eastern restaurant Mosaic, passengers can enjoy a preview of the flavours they might discover at their holiday destination.

Cornelius Everke, SSP DACH and FRABEL CEO said; “SSP has been operating at Dusseldorf Airport for many years, and we are delighted to be building on our relationship with the team here as the airport moves into a new era. Our offer has been designed to help Dusseldorf Airport achieve its ambition to be North Rhine-Westphalia’s “gateway to the world”. We are certain that this outstanding brand mix will provide a highly engaging experience for passengers at the airport.”

Managing Director of Dusseldorf Airport, Thomas Schnalke, said he was proud to welcome such renowned brands as Jamie Oliver and Tim Malzer’s Hausmann’s at Dusseldorf Airport. “With SSP as a main F&B tenant going forward, we are strengthening our reputation as an airport where passengers can be entertained on their journey.  The new outlets show once more that guests at Dusseldorf Airport are constantly offered innovative and premium gastronomy experiences. The fact that successful brands such as Jamie Oliver will be making their market debut with the brands Jamie’s Deli by Jamie Oliver and Jamie’s Coffee Van here at Dusseldorf Airport, underscores the international relevance which we have beyond the pure aviation business. We are also delighted that SSP will operate our 3,000 square meter premium DUS Conference Center, a modern concept, which will set a benchmark within our industry.”
