Volotea offers more than 1,000 flights from Athens in 2017

A new route to Genoa starts on May 26th. The airline has carried more than 100,000 passengers from Athens airport since the beginning of the operation in the Greek Capital.

Volotea, the airline of mid and small-sized European cities, has held a press conference in Athens with Carlos Munoz, Volotea’s Chief Executive Officer, to present growth plans of Volotea in Greece, its fourth largest market. The event was organized by Athens airport, represented by Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director, Communications & Marketing, who welcomed Volotea new operations in 2017. Volotea continues increasing destinations from Athens, operating three routes in Greece and four routes to Italy and in 2017. 

Volotea continues its developement in Athens
Volotea keeps on growing in Greece. The airline has made a press conference at the airport of Athens to communicate its development in the Greek capital.

Operating in Athens since 2012, Volotea has transported more than 100,000 passengers till now. 
From Athens, Volotea operates seven routes: Bari, Mykonos, Santorini, Mytilene, Palermo, Venice and Genoa, which starts next May 26th. In total, Volotea offers 120,000 seats for this year, and more than 1,000 flights, increasing 32% in comparison with 2016. 

Carlos Munoz, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Volotea, has expressed his satisfaction for the growth in Athens: “We are happy to see Volotea aircraft taking of or landing every single day this summer at Athens airport. Having operated in Greece successfully since 2012, now we will be able to connect Athens to Genoa, our next base, ninth at European level, which will be inaugurated next week. We are very satisfied to keep on growing in the Greek market and we hope to see many Athenians on board visiting the beautiful city of Genoa”

Growth in 2017
In January, Volotea has reached 10 million of passengers carried from its first flight in 2012. In 2016, Volotea experienced a significant increase percentually in its operations becoming the fastest growing large LCC in Europe.

Volotea also closed with a client recommendation rate of 92,5% and being the fourth most punctual low cost airline in the world, ranking third in Europe.

In 2017 Volotea has added more than 40 new routes to serve a lineup of 243 routes, operating flights to 79 mid and small-sized European cities in 16 countries: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Israel, Albania, Moldavia, Portugal, Malta, UK, Austria, Ireland and Luxembourg. Volotea expects to carry 4.3 million passengers.

Volotea will count on 28 aircraft this year with the addition of 6 Airbus A319s: 10 Airbus A319s and 18 Boeing 717s. More than 40% of the flights scheduled in 2017 are expected to be operated by Airbus A319.

Volotea will count on nine bases in 2017: Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, Verona, Toulouse and Genoa, to be launched in April.

Volotea expects to become a 100% Airbus operator in the next few years. This strategic decision allows the company to increase its passenger capacity by 20%, from 125 seats to 150 seats on its new planes. Both models are recognized for their comfort and reliability, with Volotea offering reclining seats 5% wider than the average in airlines.

The range of the A319 allows Volotea to operate routes with a longer distance and penetrate new markets. While the Boeing 717 has a range of 2,500km, the Airbus A319 reaches 3,500km. 

Four Volotea’s Airbus A319 are based in Nantes, where one of the six new Airbus A319s will also be placed. The other five will be based in Bordeaux and Toulouse. The new Airbus A319 of the 2017 line will be progressively delivered during the first semester of this year.
