WOW air inaugural flight launches West Coast connection to Europe

The ultra low-cost Icelandic airline now offers regular service from San Francisco and Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES – WOW air, Iceland's ultra low-cost airline, kicked off its West Coast service by touching down in San Francisco and will take off from Los Angeles on June 15th, offering regular weekly service to Reykjavik. Service from San Francisco International Airport to Iceland will be available five days a week, while service from Los Angeles International Airport will be available four days a week. In addition, WOW air offers connecting flights to 23 European destinations, such as: London, Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Stockholm, for as low as $199* including taxes, while supplies last. WOW air will also be offering flights from Boston and Baltimore/Washington DC to the European destinations.

"I'm thrilled to be aboard the first WOW air flight to San Francisco, and to start connecting the beautiful American west coast with Iceland and the rest of Europe at super low fares," said Skuli Mogensen, sole owner and CEO of WOW air. "The feedback so far on both our SFO and LAX flights has been fantastic and its clear that there is a lot of demand for a quality low cost offering between California and Europe on a year round basis."

WOW air announced its entry into the U.S. West Coast market in January 2016 at the same time tickets went on sale, and the demand was instantaneous with flights selling out within just 24 hours.

Launched in November 2011, WOW air now connects twenty-nine destinations across the U.S. and Europe with the Icelandic capital. WOW air's annual passenger capacity will more than double in 2016 to over 1.8 million, up from approximately 840,000 in 2015.

The California routes will be serviced by three new Airbus A330-300 aircrafts, the first wide-body planes in the WOW air fleet, which will each carry 350 passengers in a single-class configuration. Seat pitch will vary from 30 inches as standard to 34 inches at an additional charge.
