No one could miss PATA`s April conference

What do Tony Fernandes, David Suzuki, Tony Wheeler, David Bellamy, Giovanni Bisignani, Vincent Lo, Jean-Claude Baumgarten and Francesco Frangialli all have in common? They will all unite to deliver unbeatable insights to delegates at the 54th PATA Annual Conference in Macau, April 17-21.

With big hitters like these we can guarantee PATA Annual Conference will be a world-class event, for which both PATA members and non-members can register at unbeatable rates, said Pacific Asia Travel Association President and CEO, Mr Peter de Jong.

Take a look at what the four days have to offer, said Mr de Jong. Topical sessions moderated by seasoned media professionals, featuring world-class experts and practitioners in each field, fascinating opening and closing keynotes, unrivalled industry networking opportunities, first-rate social functions, all of that in Macau, a destination in the midst of rapid growth.

In the session called Aviation`s New Landscape, Airbus` Director of Product Marketing Richard Carcaillet will exchange opinions with The Boeing Company`s Executive Director-Value Analysis Michael W Maple.

Acclaimed TV broadcasters Nik Gowing, Peter Greenberg, Veronica Pedrosa, Lorraine Hahn and Keshini Navaratnam will moderate key sessions.

PATA members only pay US$450 to register for the event. This is unbeatable value for a world-class travel industry conference, said Mr de Jong. At that rate, only a fool would miss it.

Non-members based in Macau, Hong Kong and China (PRC) can also register at the PATA-member rate.

SIMULTANEOUS TRANSLATION INTO CHINESE

All the main sessions of the PATA Annual Conference will be simultaneously translated into Mandarin. The opening and closing sessions will be translated into Mandarin and Cantonese. PATA 2004-2005 Chairman Mr Ram Kohli said: The simultaneous translations have been introduced to make the Conference highly rewarding for Chinese-speaking delegates. It is a generous innovation by the Macau host committee.

MORE INFORMAL, INTERACTIVE SESSIONS

PAC05`s plenary sessions will be structured less rigidly. They will be less scholastic and more interactive. There will be more speakers and panellists, but each given less time to hold the floor. And there will be more time for topic-driven discussion involving delegates. Chinese-speaking delegates can also be involved thanks to simultaneous translation of all sessions.

In addition to acclaimed broadcasters, print media opinion leaders will play a pivotal role in moderating sessions. TIME Asia Editor Mr Michael Elliot, TTG Asia Editor Ms Raini Hamdi and Travel Impact Newswire Executive Editor Mr Imtiaz Muqbil will all bring their expertise to bear during the Conference.

The experience and assertiveness of the media professionals moderating the sessions is key to this approach, said PAC05 Programme Committee Chairman Mr Kevin Murphy. The moderators will have the power to call down speakers when their time is up, and may steer the discussions down provocative paths that get to the heart of the matter.

Joining the moderators on the session panels will be renowned experts and practitioners, including: Macau Government Tourist Office Director Mr Joao Manuel Costa Antunes; World Travel & Tourism Council President M. Jean-Claude Baumgarten; Prof David J Bellamy; International Air Transport Association Director General and CEO Mr Giovanni Bisignani; AirAsia Group CEO Mr Tony Fernandes; PATA Director-Strategic Intelligence Centre Mr John Koldowski; China National Tourism Administration Director General Mr Liu Ke-zhi; Dr David Suzuki; Lonely Planet Founder Mr Tony Wheeler; and many more.

IATA BOSS BISIGNANI CONNECTS WITH PATA

International Air Transport Association Director General and CEO Mr Giovanni Bisignani will deliver the opening keynote address at the 54th PATA Annual Conference (PAC05).

Befitting the Conference theme Connecting Tourism`s Stakeholders, Mr Bisignani`s career has enjoyed stopovers at diverse travel-related organisations such as a global distribution system, an online travel agency, a ferry company, an avionics manufacturer and a national flag carrier.

As he looked forward to his role at PAC05, Mr Bisignani said: If there is one thing that should connect all industry stakeholders, it is the need for change. Among the many lessons learned from recent industry shocks like SARS and terrorism two stand out: the need for co-operation across all industry sectors and the necessity of cost reduction to build a more robust industry.

Closing the Conference, Shui On Holdings Chairman Mr Vincent Lo, a construction materials, property and leisure development tycoon, will relate his experiences and offer practical advice about Building Your Way to Success.
