National carrier’s third-best result since 1927
Yesterday, Air Serbia carried its 4-millionth passenger since the start of 2023, which is a record-high since its re-branding, and the third-best result of the national carrier since its establishment in 1927. The milestone passenger Viktorija L. was welcomed at Belgrade airport’s check-in desk by Air Serbia CEO Jiří Marek and Minister of Construction, Transport & Infrastructure Goran Vesić. On that occasion, the passenger received a gift voucher for two free return tickets in business class to any of the 80 destinations in the Serbian national carrier’s network.

“Despite the numerous challenges we faced, we managed to achieve very high growth and carry over 4 million passengers in one year for the first time since 2013. This number will be even higher by the end of the year, which is something we are very proud of. Looking at the national carrier’s entire 97-year-long history, passenger traffic was highest in 1987 and 1988. In both cases, over 4 million passengers were carried,” said Jiří Marek, CEO of Air Serbia.
Air Serbia’s success is the result of a carefully devised business strategy, which entailed expanding the destination network, upgrading and expanding the fleet, as well as reinforcing cabin and flight crew. In 2023, the national airline launched 23 new destinations, among which Chicago, the third long-haul destination and the second one in the US, especially stands out. The Serbian national carrier operated close to 43,000 scheduled and charter flights in 2023. Next year, Air Serbia plans to develop its fleet and the destination network even further.
