Why the big names holiday in Mykonos

With its stunning sunsets and unique Greek architecture, Mykonos has always been popular with TV stars and influencers regularly upload photographs of their adventures to Instagram, but it seems that right now it is more popular than ever.

With both Hollywood star Matt Damon and Liverpool winger Mo Salah recently photographed on the beaches of Mykonos over the summer, it would appear that the Greek island has become something of a superstar’s playground.

Mykonos is an extremely popular destination for many celebrities. A list actors, international pop stars, fashion icons, business tycoons and now top sporting icons are all flocking to “The Island of the Winds”.

Celebrities who have visited Mykonos post lockdown include some of the biggest stars such as Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Leonardo DiCaprio and many more.

And it’s easy to see why too.

So much to do
Mykonos is well known for its beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, vibrant nightlife and Mykonos hotels that attract many celebrities and influencers alike, all of whom are looking to unwind with a luxurious and exclusive escape.

With its huge range of luxurious hotels, top notch dining options and lively cultural scene, it is little wonder that Mykonos has become one of the most sought after destinations for the rich and famous.

So, if you’re looking to holiday like a celeb, Mykonos is a great destination to rub shoulders with the stars. And, while we aren’t able tell you what celebrities are in Mykonos at the time you are reading this, we can reveal where you will be likely to find them.

Mykonos hotels tend to be extremely secretive about who is on their guest list which one of the exact reasons why celebrities love to visit this Greek island so much.

Previously spotted A list residents in town include Linda Evangelista, Sharon Stone, Alessandra Ambrisio, Demi Moore, England footballers Declan Rice, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Jack Grealish, plus many more classified celebrity guests.

Playground of the rich and famous
The Greek island of Mykonos is now the undisputed holiday destination for the super rich with luxury beach bars selling Armand de Brignac champagne for £125,000 a bottle and boutique shops displaying £20,000 Rolex watches.

In this new playground of the rich and famous, high rollers have been partying the night away at swanky spots like Paraga Beach, an idyllic bay which is shielded from this famously blustery island’s powerful winds and home to plenty of exclusive bars.

This particular popular party spot is jam packed with millionaires downing bottles of vodka and champagne as they dance the day and night away to loud dance music and R&B on a private VIP island in the middle of a swimming pool. Here, there is a minimum spend of more than £17, 000 (20,000 €).

The most expensive item on the drinks list is a bottle of Armand de Brignac Brut Gold Midas champagne, which is priced at an eye watering £106 (125,000 Euros), while even a single bottle of Sol lager costs a staggering £8.50 (10 €).

Places to go, people to see
On the other side of the island is Panormos Beach where just hiring a sun lounger costs nearly as much as £85 (100 €). At the weekend young men can be seen quaffing £60 (70 €) a time bottles of vodka along side beautiful bikini clad women while older visitors enjoy some of the finest seafood in the world, such as grilled octopus, while gazing out into the sparkling Aegean Sea.

Teakwood sun loungers with charcoal coloured cushions are spread out across the shore shaded by cream crochet parasols while luxury sofas, positioned away from the glare of the scorching hot Greek sun, invite guests to unwind and relax and enjoy a signature hand crafted cocktail.

Yachts, that can be specially chartered for as much as £20,000 a day and come with your own private chef, bob up and down next to the jetty, which takes customers back to the bars and restaurants after an enjoyable afternoon at sea.

Away from the beaches, the most popular spot on the island is Hora, otherwise known as Mykonos Town. Here, an enchanting warren of narrow whitewashed streets lined with bars, restaurants and boutique gift shops awaits.

Trendy bars offer bottles of Irish whiskey for £100 and spiced rum for £210 with drinkers flocking there from all across Europe. Even former Pussycat Doll singer Nicole Scherzinger and Scottish boyfriend Thom Evans enjoyed a romantic dinner in Mykanos Town to celebrate her 43rd birthday. Another Mykonos visitor is singing legend Lionel Richie, worth a cool £160million, who stayed on a private mega yacht moored just off the rocky outcrop to celebrate his birthday here in 2021.

And it is not only the bar prices that are sky high, a trip into Nammos Village will see shops selling Gucci handbags for more than £4,500, jewellery for £700,000 and Rolex or Panerai watches for as much as £20,000.

Actress Demi Moore joined her family on the Greek island and was spotted taking a dip in the sea with her daughter Rumer Willis at the popular Nammos beach. More recently, Hollywood star Matt Damon was caught enjoying himself on the beaches of Ornos, while footballing legend Mo Salah was also photographed on Principote beach before he returns to his club for the new season.
