According to its Vice Chairman in Europe Bertrand Julien Laperriere, Club Med iterranee, the French leisure group and tour operator, is  set to invest euro 88 million in Greece by 2004. Of this investment, euro 40 million is to be spent on building a hotel on the island of Zákinthos.

Meanwhile, Spanish hotel chain Riu, which is part-owned by German tour operator TUI Group, is looking slightly further afield, to Africa. It is investing euro 300 million to open 24 hotels, predominantly in Morocco and Cape Verde.
