Planhotel Resorts and Hotels has launched the new “star of the east Zanzibar”

Star of the East: eleven unique villas, perfect for unforgettable moments and completely immersed in a natural landscape, tended by Dr. Doria, an expert in creating “inconceivable” gardens. “The gardens and green areas have been created on coral rock which we had to cover with soil before planting with plants which had been grown in a nursery nearby.” Dr. Doria adds “ It is only thanks to painstaking work and a significant recuperation of water with ad hoc installations that we are able to provide irrigation to these enchanting green areas, without wasting water. We have used local vegetation and remodeled the ground to place the villas in such a way as to guarantee each of them a splendid sea view.”

The architect who has followed the project from its inception is Dr. Germano Aghemo, both he and Dr. Roberto Doria are from Turin, Italy. Architect Aghemo followed the “Gemma dell’Est” project back in 2004 and in 2007, still at Gemma dell’Est, he was in charge of planning the Baobab Congress Centre and then continued in 2009 to follow every detail of the eleven new villas.

“Over an area of 18,000 square meters we have been able to build eleven villas, two of which have two bedrooms and a restaurant and panoramic swimming pool which are available to guests in all of the villas” explains Dr. Aghemo. “Each villa has it’s own private pool, a garden full of lush vegetation and a fountain, while everything has been located in such a way as to ensure total privacy”. The eleven villas are surrounded by a splendid botanic garden and a large saltwater swimming pool, the only one of it’s kind on the island, which has been created for their exclusive use.

President Dr. Passeri explains that the project is the result of two years work, performed by local workmen supported by Italian expatriates under the management of Dr. Lorenzo Monti, Director of Infrastructure Division and Engineer and Dr. Marco Arcangeletti, Project Manager. “It is not a false paradise, the project affirms respect for the environment and local culture. At every step you receive a different visual stimulus, at every glance a changing landscape, sinuous lines, no right angles and the villas are placed in a palette of color, full of Bougainvillea” Dr. Aghemo explains. “Everything stems from a desire to unite a Zanzibar – Oman experience, the Sultanate’s heritage, with the most archaic symbols of Africa, the traditional hut shape with retaining walls of local stone and coral rock, entirely created by local labor.” “Each villa is built on one level with an area of approximately 200 square meters” continues Dr. Passeri. “And it is equipped with a modern system of solar panels which exploits to the full the natural energy which Zanzibar provides us with every day. The resort is supplied with a modern purification system and the outgoing water is used for irrigation in our gardens.

Drinking water, which we take from several wells close to the resort is treated with a reverse osmosis installation to reduce the salinity. The villas have hydro- massage baths and outdoor panoramic showers but above all they have a unique level of service with a butler which makes them a paradise fit for the most demanding traveler or romantic honeymooners.”
