Thailand is expected to earn as high as 700 billion baht from its tourism industry this year despite a continued increase in fuel prices, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
The TAT`s Governor, Jutamas Siriwan, said although many countries the world over had experienced hefty oil prices, foreign tourists had continued to come to Thailand as usual.
The foreign arrivals grew steadily in the first seven months of this year, as the government had a policy to promote tourism concretely and continuously.
She said the number of foreign tourists had increased by 25% from the same period of last year. Many local tourists have not changed their behavior. They still prefer domestic tours.She said TAT estimated that the number of foreign tourists would rise to 11-12 million by the end of this year. The authority believed it would manage to increase the number to meet the target.
Ms. Jutamas said TAT also projected that the tourism business would earn the country up to 700 billion baht for this year.
