UK & Irish Tour Operators are invited to join this scheme, designed to attract the younger winter sports clientele to return to Austria in summer.
`We will target skiers and snowboarders holidaying in Austria this winter and introduce our country as the perfect destination to return to in summer`, says Arthur Oberascher.
Dr. Oberascher continues: `Our winter guests are predominately families and young professional couples who either do not consider Austria as a summer destination or are not necessary aware of the variety of attractive alpine summer packages available. Apart from introducing Austria as a summer visitors as well as repeat booking incentives. We have invited tour operators to jointly develop incentive schemes and loyalty programs that will appeal and work for all involved.`
Statistics can be boring, but Austria is jubilant with the increase of British visitors in 2000; a total of 666,616 guests (+11,9%) came to Austria from the UK, with arrivals in winter 2000/01 up by 11,5% to 293,711.
Visitor numbers have increased for the fifth year running and currently it seems likely that Austria will be able to keep them at last year`s level; despite the current difficult political and economic situation, sales of skiing and snowboarding holidays to Austria are doing well.
