Following what turned to be Greece`s best year for incoming tourism, with a 15% increase over 1998, according to the Hellenic National Tourism Organization (EOT), tour operators in the United Kingdom foresee another boom year in 2000.

`This past year has been brilliant`, says Panos Argyros, EOT<.> director for the UK and Ireland. `Travel agents know Greece has improved its infrastructure over the last three years`.

Said improvements have included upgrading of the airports of Athens, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, the two on Crete.

A number of tour operators, including Thomson, Airtours, First Choice, and Cosmos, have increase their capacity for 2000 as well as fixed some bargain prices, such as seven nights in Corfu for one hundred pound sterling, including flights and accommodations.

Several operators have cut prices, giving credit to hoteliers and the anticipated devaluation of the drachma.
