Tourists today value their environment as well as good service EICC Chief Executive Hans Rissmann commented on last week`s announcement: The great thing about the Green Tourism scheme is that it provides a Win-Win for all concerned. The Company reduces its costs, which means the customer can get increased added value whilst the environment is preserved for future tourists.
Being environmentally aware is part and parcel of the EICC culture, along with a can-do customer-focused attitude. We have a well-established Green team that facilitates environmental initiatives and continuously monitors energy consumption, waste reduction and use of green products as well as wider environmental issues such as global warming, transportation and carbon neutrality. As far as we are concerned, participation in such award schemes makes sense both environmentally and in terms of good business practice.
The VisitScotland scheme is suitable for businesses of all sizes and sections of the hospitality and tourism industry. Up to ten measures are considered when assessing companies, ranging from waste management to energy consumption and from transport to training and monitoring. Minimum scores are required from each section to achieve one of the three standards, gold being the highest.
Hans Rissmann added: Now that the EICC has reached the Gold standard at its first attempt, we have a credible indication of our commitment to being environmentally friendly. The Green Tourism Gold award sits neatly with the other marks of excellence that the EICC holds – IiP, Hospitality Assured Meetings, ISO 9001, Excellence through People. The EICC will now look to build and consolidate its position Europe`s No1 conferencing venue.
The Green Award follows closely on from the Scottish Awards for Business Excellence last month where the EICC achieved the highest ever score for any company in the eight-year history of the Excellence Awards.
