The January to December figures of visitors to Canada were published last week and reveal that 824,758 British visitors travelled to Canada last year. This represents an increase of 16.5% on 2003 visitation.
These latest figures show that Canada is returning to its pre 9/11 visitor numbers and we are confident that we can build on the success of 2004 to increase our numbers further. With the launch of the Air Canada/ Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) advertising campaign, the stand alone CTC Campaign, and now the province of Ontario using the same advertisement concept for their stand alone campaigns, we will have a significantly increased presence in the UK market at the start of 2005, said Ian Harrower, U.K. Director of the Canadian Tourism Commission. All signs are that bookings are up on 2004. A recent consumer survey has also shown Canada to be very high the list of places people wish to travel to. We expect this demand to convert quickly and easily to bookings primarily as a result of fares offered by low cost carriers to Canada making the destination even more affordable than before, he continued.
