Wizz Air starts flights to Frankfurt-Hahn

Wizz Air, CEE’s favourite low cost airline announced that it starts flights from Budapest and Katowice to Frankfurt-Hahn

Wizz Air, CEE’s favourite low cost airline announced that it starts flights from Budapest and Katowice to Frankfurt-Hahn from March 27, 2005.

After Dortmund this is the second German destination from Poland and 7th brand new destination from Katowice. By adding Frankfurt-Hahn to its network, Wizz Air offers another – as yet unserved destination to the citizens of Southern Poland as well as Hungary.

We have had a very positive experience with flying to Germany from Poland. – said Jozsef Varadi, CEO of Wizz Air. On this basis, we decided to start flights to Germany from Budapest as well. Frankfurt-Hahn will be a perfect opening to this promising market for us from Hungary. Frankfurt-Hahn is not only a perfect destination in terms of traffic flow and business potential, but the airport itself is ideally fitting our airport strategy, which is to avoid main and congested airports. We expect many Hungarians and Poles visiting the Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate region as well as German tourists and business people to come to visit the two largest new EU countries.

Deputy Prime Minister of the German land Rhineland-Palatinate Hans-Artur Bauckhage welcomed this announcement. “With Wizz Air on board, there will be another low-cost airline at the airport Frankfurt-Hahn, which supports the development of the infrastructure and the importance of this airport at the international level”, said Bauckhage. Besides this, the new destinations will improve the relations to the new member states of the European Union and further develop the economic and touristic merchandise. This is a further step to reach our goal to position Frankfurt-Hahn as an international renowned low-cost airport”, said the Minister of Economy, Transportation, Agriculture and Viniculture.

“We are very delighted to have gained in this short time another strong low-cost-airline partner who is committed to our airport-concept”, says Jorg Schumacher, CEO of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport. “To fly from Frankfurt-Hahn to Budapest and Katowice is the right choice of Wizz Air as the community of Polish and Hungarian citizens are very strong in our surrounding regions. Not to forget the booming interest of our German citizens to travel to the new EU countries. As Katowice is one of the most important economical and scientific centres of Poland we expect an increasing number of business travellers to use this destination. And Budapest is considered as Paris of the East – the romantic and pictorial waterside of the Danube will enthuse our passengers”, adds Andreas Helfer, also CEO of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport.
