FRA achieves new historic record for September passenger traffic

In the first nine months of 2013, FRA served a total of 44.2 million passengers, a rise of 0.2 percent year-on-year.

FRANKFURT, GERMANY – Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed some 5.5 million passengers in September 2013: a new historic September record at Germany’s largest aviation gateway. Thus, the number of passengers using FRA in September 2013 jumped by 191,000 or 3.6 percent compared to the same month last year – the previous record September, despite the impact of strike activity then. Aircraft movements rose during the reporting month by 0.7 percent to 42,525 takeoffs and landings.

In the first nine months of 2013, FRA served a total of 44.2 million passengers, a rise of 0.2 percent year-on-year. Aircraft movements declined by 2.5 percent to 357,538 takeoffs and landings. FRA’s cargo volume grew in the January-to-September 2013 period by 0.7 percent to about 1.6 million metric tons. Accumulated MTOWs dropped by 2.4 percent to about 21.4 million metric tons.

Fraport’s majority-owned airports registered strong growth in September 2013 as well as significant increases during the first nine months of the year. Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru received more than 11 million passengers compared to the same period last year, a gain of 12.2 percent year-on-year. Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera welcomed a total of 22.1 million passengers from January to September 2013, up 6.6 percent. On the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Burgas Airport (BOJ) had about more than 2.4 million passengers (up 4.6 percent), while Varna Airport (VAR) registered about 1.2 million passengers (up 7.3 percent). For the January-to-September 2013 period, the five majority-owned Group airports served a total of about 81 million passengers – a rise of 3.6 percent year-on-year.

Fraport AG’s executive board chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte expressed satisfaction with the nine-month traffic results: “After a slow start in early 2013, Frankfurt Airport’s cumulative traffic figures have reached the 2012 level. And one should also not forget that in 2012 we posted a new record year with more passengers than any other year in the history of FRA. Once again, Fraport’s overseas airports continue to achieve strong passenger volumes and are developing very positively. This is contributing noticeably to growth in the Group’s results.”
