The Seatrade Middle East Maritime exhibition, to be staged alongside the Seatrade convention in December, is set to triple in size and has won first-time pavilion commitments from Pakistan, India and Iran.

To date we have received reservations from exhibitors across 11 countries from throughout the Middle East, Scandinavia, the Sub-continent, Europe, the USA, Far East, and Levant, said Chris Hayman, Managing Director, Seatrade.

Much of the growth is also emanating from previous exhibitors who have chosen to double the size, or expand, their participation. Repeat and expanded bookings of this nature are the greatest testimonial to Seatrade`s reputation as a forum which delivers real business returns.

Among exhibitors doubling their presence at Seatrade 2004 are Albawardy Marine Engineering LLC, Castrol Marine, Dubai Shipbuilding & Engineering and Lloyd`s Register. Those expanding their stand size include Aquablast Middle East LLC, Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard Company, Barwil Dubai LLC, Bromma Middle East, Dubai Drydocks, Exxon Mobile Middle East Marketing Corporation, Grandweld/GMMOSTECH, Kanoo Shipping Agencies and United Arab Shipping Company.

Seatrade 2004 will take place against a background of growth in the international maritime industry – all sectors of the shipping industry are booming with heavy demand coming for container and dry bulk transshipment, explained Hayman.

The Seatrade Middle East Maritime Convention, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from December 6-8, will this year include two parallel conference streams. One will focus on general shipping and the other on the region`s potential for cruise tourism and the luxury yacht market. The general programme will examine growth drivers that produced record cargo movements in 2003 for containers and high freight rates in the dry and liquid bulk sectors, and will put port development in the spotlight.

Expansion plans are in place across the region in the UAE, Bahrain, Bandar Abbas, Kuwait, Salalah and other centres, said Hayman.

The conference will look at how the pattern of cargo movement for the region will play out in the medium term. Intra-regional trade volumes between the Middle East and the sub-continent continue to expand with major change in prospect for the ports of Indian and Pakistan.

The conference will also feature a session on cruise tourism in the region.

the region has great potential as a cruise destination, said Hayman. The event will attract cruise line itinerary planners, who will get a first hand understanding of how well prepared the Gulf is for cruise tourism.

Seatrade Middle East Maritime is being held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence with the support of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Government of Dubai, Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) and Dubai Maritime City.

The event is also supported by Dubai Shipping Agents Association, Indian National Ship-owners` Association, National Association of Freight & Logistics, The Nautical Institute UAE Branch and the UAE National Ship Suppliers` Association.
