River City Casino implements centrally-hosted MICROS Simphony as its point of service solution

MICROS Systems, Inc. announces that River City Casino, Pinnacle Entertainment’s newest property, located in St. Louis, Missouri, has implemented the centrally-hosted MICROS Simphony enterprise point-of-service solution along with 60 MICROS Workstation 5 terminals for its food & beverage and retail operations. MICROS Simphony is being centrally-hosted and maintained in Pinnacle Entertainment’s Las Vegas datacenter. River City Casino, the first casino complex in south St. Louis County, opened its doors on March 4, 2010.

River City Casino brings even more excitement to the area with a gaming and multi-use complex that includes restaurants, an entertainment venue and other amenities. To support River City Casino, as well as its other properties, Pinnacle Entertainment is implementing cloud computing and enterprise ready systems.

MICROS Simphony utilizes a Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) built on web services supporting a myriad of deployment options. Simphony provides operational resiliency by communicating directly with the web services running on the property level, significantly reducing the dependency on complex infrastructures. In the event of a WAN ( Wide Area Network) outage the MICROS Simphony POS workstations will continue to communicate with one another in a peer-to-peer fashion and perform mission critical casino operation communications, such as video surveillance integration, kitchen printing, gaming comps, credit card processing, and room charging, all in real-time. As there are no property based servers for POS, the workstations will upload the offline data as the network connectivity returns with no user intervention and no interruption to operations.

“Pinnacle Entertainment made a decision to implement an enterprise product with the ability to reduce costs, gain operational efficiencies and provide consistent business processes across the organization,” stated Win Person, Corporate Vice President of Food & Beverage, Pinnacle Entertainment. “We selected MICROS Simphony for the product’s ability to run point-of-service terminals in multiple time zones and operate independently from the application and database servers. Simphony is hosted in our Las Vegas datacenter and delivered to River City Casino with no MICROS servers on property, further minimizing upfront and operational costs.”

“We are pleased to partner with and support Pinnacle Entertainment as it shifts its technology to a true enterprise platform,” stated Ed Chapel, Senior Vice President, MICROS North America Distribution. “Simphony’s advanced Service Oriented Architecture, unparalleled offline resiliency, superior reporting, and powerful integration provide Pinnacle Entertainment with the tools necessary to improve business efficiency and enhance the guest experience while minimizing total cost of ownership.”
