Marriott unveils renovations at Bush Intercontinental hotel

The property-wide transformation of the hotel – which opened at Bush Intercontinental in 1971 – extends from the exterior to guestrooms, suites, meeting rooms, lobby, restaurants, public areas and fitness center.

HOUSTON – A valued part of George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) for nearly 45 years, the Houston Airport Marriott unveiled a multi-million dollar makeover Jan. 12, 2016, when newly elected Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner joined a group to celebrate the dramatic renovation of the 573-room hotel located in the heart of the airport.

The property-wide transformation of the hotel – which opened at Bush Intercontinental in 1971 – extends from the exterior to guestrooms, suites, meeting rooms, lobby, restaurants, public areas and fitness center. All areas have been reimagined with a modern style and design that focuses on improving the overall guest experience, delivering on the flagship brand’s promise of Traveling Brilliantly.

“The Houston Airport Marriott provides our travelers with an elevated option for meetings, business trips and leisure stays with the convenience of being in the heart of George Bush Intercontinental Airport,” said Houston Aviation Director Mario C. Diaz. “The hotel adds to the airport’s plans to revitalize and modernize our facility and provide our growing number of travelers with the best care and experience possible when arriving and departing our gates. We’re thrilled to have the newly transformed hotel that guests can easily access from all five terminals in the airport.”

Just minutes from all airline gates, it is the only hotel at the airport offering convenient and complimentary transportation directly into and from each terminal via a connected underground tram. Now, as guests arrive to the hotel, they can enjoy a new and enhanced front entrance, registration and lobby experience. Designed with an on-the-go traveler in mind, the completely renovated guest rooms feature custom-designed headboards that incorporate the latest technological conveniences with task lighting, electric outlets and USB outlets. High-speed wireless Internet access and 47-inch LCD TVs are standard room amenities. Bathrooms have been designed to showcase a spa-like feel while providing increased dressing area space. New stand-up tile showers with sleek, transparent glass doors have replaced the tub/shower combos.

To better serve business guests and meeting hosts, the 34 meeting rooms featuring 30,000 square feet of total meeting space showcase new furnishings, carpet, wall coverings and the latest in technology. Meeting room and celebration spaces are outfitted with premium audio/visual systems to provide every convenience for groups both large and small. Exceptional catering, Professional Meeting Planners and Marriott Certified Wedding Planners are available on-site.

“The hotel has been updated with our guest’s comfort in mind so that they may have an uplifting experience and the opportunity to recharge while they are on the road,” said Suzy Hart, general manager of the Houston Airport Marriott. “We’re thrilled to extend our reopening celebration into the George Bush Intercontinental Airport with travel amenities for those coming to Houston and departing to various destinations.”

With five runways, five terminals and nearly 200 destinations worldwide, George Bush Intercontinental Airport served more than 40 million passengers last year, including more than 10 million international passengers, and is the 11th busiest for total passengers in North America and the largest passenger-carrying hub for United Airlines. The hotel’s premier location in Houston’s major international airport deems it a high-demand destination for business travelers, families and individuals.
