Deutsche Bahn launches rail packaging with Peakwork

Dynamic packaging for holiday travel is typically a combination of flight and hotel services – but now it has a new component: Rail.

FRANKFURT a.M. / DUSSELDORF – By train to hotel – dynamically packaged and attractively priced. Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Peakwork make this possible with the forthcoming Rail Package Player for train+hotel packages, offering tour operators new possibilities to build customer- and environmentally-friendly offers.

Dynamic packaging for holiday travel is typically a combination of flight and hotel services – but now it has a new component: Rail. With the extensive DB route network, the range of rail services by far exceeds the offer by major airlines for dynamic packaging. "Together with Peakwork, we have created a seamless travel chain that can be dynamically packaged – from home to a regional train, ICE on and off, then again on a regional train to a hotel. We do not only connect Germany nationwide, but we also serve many top European destinations. The new rail offers are bookable for Austria, France, Switzerland, Italy and the Benelux countries. With the new Rail Package Player and our new tourism tariffs, we can offer tour operators and hotel providers an efficient and attractive opportunity for dynamic packaging in the Peakwork Leisure Travel network", said Kay Hellwig, Head of Tourism Cooperation at DB Vertrieb GmbH.

The new travel offers, which are made possible by the Rail Package Player, have many customer benefits: From a city break, a holiday, festival or cultural visit – each customer can build a bespoke package using rail and hotel components, to meet their needs. For tour operators, this new technology for rail packages offers an exciting new business opportunity: In a market in which individual services are often booked and combined by the customer, the tour operator will now be able to build appropriate, customer-friendly offers, at an attractive price. In addition, train travel appeals to travelers who are looking for a stress-free alternative to driving during their holiday or simply want to be environmentally aware.

With several tour operators, Deutsche Bahn and Peakwork are already planning the integration of the new Player into their respective service portfolio. One of the first partners will be the city break specialist Ameropa, where connectivity is already well advanced. The tour operator automates the package creation, so offers can rapidly be brought and on demand to the market.

Jan Gerlach, CEO of Peakwork, added: "We see enormous potential for the distribution of rail services for dynamic packaging. We are creating a completely new travel offer for tourism."

The Peakwork network includes OTA and Metasearch partners who are active in numerous sales markets. Even here, in the future, the new rail packages could be offered in addition to the classic flight+hotel packages. The potential and demand of travel providers is high.
