Garden of the Gods Resort and Club announces new leadership in Engineering and Operations

Acclaimed resort names John Douglas Vice President of Engineering and Jan Verweij as Senior Vice President of Operations.

COLORADO SPINGS, CO – Garden of the Gods Resort and Club announces two high-level resort appointments to its leadership team. John Douglas will head the resort’s engineering operations as Vice President of Engineering and Jan Verweij will bring his leadership skills to the team as Senior Vice President of Operations.

As the Vice President of Engineering, Douglas will oversee all aspects of the engineering functions of the resort’s facilities, along with the security and IT teams. A graduate of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA, Douglas earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and served as an officer in the United States Airforce. After completing his military career, Douglas worked in a variety of leadership roles within the hospitality industry including Director of Engineering at Marriott, leading the Engineering team at the Ritz Carlton Dove Mountain in Arizona and Corporate Director of Engineering for Stonebridge Companies. Most recently, Douglas served as the Director of Engineering, Security and Information Technology for luxury hotel and resort company, Montage. A seasoned professional in resort engineering operations, Douglas brings proven expertise to his new role at Garden of the Gods Resort and Club.

As the Senior Vice President of Operations, Jan Verweij will oversee operations efforts for Rooms, Food & Beverage, Golf, Racquet Sports, Retail, and Recreation. Throughout his career, Verweij has held positions in various areas of the operations side of hospitality, from providing customer service at the front desk and in housekeeping to working his way up to the Director of Front Office position at the Forbes Five Star Flagship Peninsula Chicago. In 2013, Verweij went on to assist in the opening of one of Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels newest properties, The Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel by the Sea, California. He was subsequently promoted to oversee the hotel and club as the Resort Manager where he has successfully served for the last five years. Originally from the Netherlands, Verweij earned his Associate Degree in Hospitality Management from the Mondriaan Hotel and Management School in Hague, Netherlands before completing a further four-year degree in International Hospitality Management from the renowned Les Roches Swiss School of Hotel Management in Switzerland. Bringing leadership and invaluable skill to his new role at Garden of the Gods Resort and Club, Verweij offers a deep knowledge of what goes into creating luxury experiences for guests and how each role within the team contributes to the overall success of the property.

These new additions to the resort’s senior leadership team are just part of the exciting changes coming to Garden of the Gods Resort and Club in the new year. The property is also undergoing an impressive renovation which will include a complete remodel of all lodge guest rooms, a full-scale renovation to the Grand View dining room and terrace, the addition of three new outdoor tennis courts and six pickleball courts, beautification of the arrival experience, upgrades to Strata salon and spa and much more. These renovations, which are expected to be completed in Spring 2023 will further elevate the feeling of indulgence, wellness and relaxation that guests of the resort enjoy.
