Destination Summit kicks off mia’s busy February events calendar

The two-day event will feature insightful talks and workshops from leading experts including Tracy Halliwell, director of business tourism and major events at London and Partners and David Bodor, regional director Europe, ICCA.

The Meetings Industry Association (mia) is hosting its first Destination Summit next month to help UK convention bureaus and destinations attract more conferences and events.

The two-day event, which is being held in Brighton at the Old Ship Hotel on 5 and 6 February, will feature insightful talks and workshops from leading experts including Tracy Halliwell, director of business tourism and major events at London and Partners and David Bodor, regional director Europe, ICCA.

Further sessions presented by the eminent speaking panel will focus on promoting and marketing destinations, growing audience, impact and reputation as well as how to run a convention bureau and operational best practice. Delegates will also benefit from insight into new business development including research, establish and growing the pipeline of potential new business.

The first of the mia's Business Breakfasts will be on 12 February at the Congress Centre, London. This practical and insightful 90-minute workshop entitled ‘Writing Killer Award Entries’ will feature expert guidance from the mia’s marketing and PR agency Custard Communications on how to successfully make awards part of your marketing strategy.

On 21 February the mia is running an afternoon workshop on ‘Presentation Skills’ at the Park Crescent Conference Centre, London. Led by Richard Newman – an award-winning expert in communications, storytelling and influencing, who has worked with CEOs, vice-presidents and leadership teams – delegates will learn how to combine their own authentic communication style with success principles that are proven to give extra authority and influence in business as well as increase natural persuasiveness, personal impact and effectiveness.

The final event of the month is on 26 February is a ‘Self and Relationships’ workshop at the Anglo Educational Services, London. This session will be led by Tracey Powiesnik from Core Process who will use her experience in sales, people development, emotional intelligence and commercial skills to demonstrate how to transform individuals and dysfunctional groups into cohesive, high performing and confident teams.
