The European Regions Airline Association (ERA) is calling for cooperation between airports, airlines and national governments to ensure the safety and security of air passengers and airline employees. The resolution was agreed at the ERA General Assembly 2006 in Barcelona on 29 September.

Among the key aspects of the resolution is a call for the funding of anti-terrorist security to be borne by states and for airlines and airports to be involved as partners in the development and implementation of new anti-terrorist solutions.

The resolution also asks that anti-terrorist measures take account of the need for air transport in Europe to continue to function effectively as a smoothly harmonised system to the maximum degree possible.

ERA’s director general Mike Ambrose says: Ensuring the safety and security of an airline’s passengers and employees is the paramount objective of any airline. There needs to be a European Union-wide review of the security requirements that are imposed on airlines by individual states in order to achieve a far higher degree of standardisation and the elimination of unjustified national variations.
