G Adventures and ABTA LifeLine call on travel industry to help change lives by supporting fundraising trek to The Lost City, Colombia

G Adventures

Bringing together the industry to raise vital funds for Planeterra and ABTA LifeLine, every penny raised will be divided equally to support Planeterra’s work with vulnerable communities around the world to help them access tourism, as well as ABTA LifeLine who provide support to struggling travel colleagues across the UK in their time of need.

G Adventures has launched their third “G Trek For Good” fundraising trek to help raise much-needed funds for local communities and professionals touched by tourism, and are calling on members from the industry to support the cause. The trek, which will take place from 13- 24 March 2024 in Colombia, will see senior members from across the UK’s travel industry take on one of South America’s most challenging routes.

Following a hugely successful trek in 2022, which saw a group summit Mt. Toubkal in Morocco and previously Mount Kilimanjaro in 2019, this year’s  G Trek for Good to The Lost City is aiming to raise more funds than ever for Planeterra and ABTA LifeLine and unite the travel industry through the trek of a lifetime.

The determined group, led by a team from G Adventures, will cover nearly 30 miles across five gruelling days, through steamy jungle, rural farmland and the remote river valleys of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Trekkers will have to battle humidity, river crossings and jungle critters to make the final 1,200 step climb to arrive at the otherworldly Lost City.

Brian Young, managing director at G Adventures said: “I am so inspired by all those who signed-up for this year’s G Trek for Good. For some this will be the toughest challenge of their lives but there is huge power in bringing people together to raise money and to make an incredible impact. Together we are proving that the travel industry can be a force for good and I can’t wait to see how our fundraising changes people’s lives.”

Trudie Clements, Director at ABTA LifeLine, added: “I am so delighted that 21 travel colleagues are lacing up their boots and taking on an adventure of a lifetime in support of two great causes. This challenge is like no other – it’s daunting! But we all know that every step we take will make a positive change for so many in our travel community. We would love to smash our fundraising target, so any donation, big or small, would be much appreciated.”

G Adventures and ABTA LifeLine are asking the industry to donate generously to help exceed the £25,000 fundraising target.
