IAEE Public Events Council releases survey report

With data from 2009-2014 available, the report continues to grow as a tool for producers to use in order to identify trends, make plans for launching new events and see where individual sectors fall in the overall view.

DALLAS – The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) Public Events Council released its Public Events Industry Report: 2014 Results. In 2009, the Public Events Council distributed a survey to public event organizers across 22 public events industry sectors to examine overall industry performance. The report identified which public events industry sectors fared well, which sectors struggled and their expectations for the future. As a follow-up to the benchmark report, the survey is repeated annually with subsequent reports detailing individual and comparative statistics over the years.

With data from 2009-2014 available, the report continues to grow as a tool for producers to use in order to identify trends, make plans for launching new events and see where individual sectors fall in the overall view.

“The Public Events Industry Report, now in its sixth year, demonstrates that public events are performing as or better than expected,” says IAEE President & CEO David DuBois, CMP, CAE, FASAE, CTA. “And, as the economy recovers we are seeing more new launches, more normal staffing patterns and a return to the more routine challenges that have always been around.”

Some key results include:

  • 2014 was the first year that newly launched events were reported in each of the 22 sectors.
  • Maintaining and growing attendance was identified as one of the major factors facing show producers in 2015. In support of this statement, 23 percent of the respondents in 2014 reported worse attendance than in 2013.
  • While venue-related challenges were identified as the top issue facing public show producers, technology and engaging with millennials were new challenges that were identified.
