MADRID / ATHENS – CANARD Drones has announced the recent completion of 50 inspection and calibration operations of visual aids at 12 airports in Greece through its technological solution based on the integration of drones, app and cloud computing.

Specifically, CANARD Drones has carried out a total of 26 Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), 11 Approach Lighting Systems (ALS) and 13 Runway Lights calibration operations at the regional airports of Thessaloniki, Kavala, Corfu, Zakinthos, Kefallonia, Mykonos, Santorini, Kos, Rhodes, Samos, Mytilini and Skiathos. These airports are managed by Fraport Greece, the bidder for the contract.

Mr. Juan Diaz, CTO of CANARD Drones, explained: “These operations in Greece have been a milestone for our company, as we have been able to deploy our solution characterized by its agility, efficiency and availability in record time. In a matter of days we have been able to execute 50 operations in 12 different airports that, if we had done it with traditional methods, would have had a huge impact on airport operations and cost.”

Corfu International Airport “Ioannis Kapodistrias”

CANARD Drones has developed a comprehensive solution not only for the inspection of visual aids, but also of radio and infrastructure aids at civil airports and military airfields. Through a single online platform that integrates a drone and a self-developed app, users can perform, with 24/7 availability, a series of recurring inspections: PAPI, ALS, Runway Lights, ILS, VOR, ETOD / Obstacles and PCI.

Also, by having a commercial off-the-shelf product such as CANARD Drones, users become completely autonomous, using the system for decision making with the data and results obtained instantly.

Mr. Savvas Karagiannis, Corporate Communications Manager of Fraport Greece, commented: “At Fraport Greece we are undoubtedly committed to innovation, optimization, safety, security and also sustainability in all operational processes at our airports. We believe that the partnership with CANARD Drones and their immediate calibration solutions for visual aids is highly valuable and perfectly aligned with our company’s objectives. To be at the forefront of the airport industry, we have to embrace the latest technologies.”

The operations have been carried out with the collaboration of the company Hellenic Drones. For this purpose, CANARD Drones has trained its staff, working together in the planning and execution of the operations.
