Edinburgh Airport set for busiest ever Easter weekend

Edinburgh Airport

More than 170,000 passengers expected to travel as holidays get underway.

Edinburgh Airport is set to record its busiest ever Easter with more than 170,000 passengers expected during the holiday weekend.

Scotland’s airport is prepared for a cracking start to the holidays as passengers take the opportunity to jet off for a break, reunite with family, or visit Scotland to see the best our country has to offer.

The four days from Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1 will see upwards of 89,000 passengers flying out and more than 83,000 people arriving in the capital.

Among the most popular destinations for outbound passengers are London, Paris, Dublin, Belfast and Amsterdam, while services to holiday favourites like Tenerife and Alicante also feature high on the list.

Sunday also marks the start of the airport’s summer schedule and the resumption of a number of different flights, including to Washington D.C. with United and New York JFK with Delta Air Lines.

Passengers are reminded to arrive at the airport for their airline’s check-in desk opening, and prepare for security by following the 100ml liquid rules and removing large electricals like laptops and tablets from their bags.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “There’s always a buzz during Easter weekend and we look forward to welcoming the tens of thousands of passengers travelling to the airport from across Scotland and beyond each day, whether it be to take a well-earned break in the sun, see a new city, or visit family they haven’t seen in a while.

“It’s also a time of year many people take the opportunity to visit Edinburgh to see what our fabulous city has to offer, and journey onwards to experience the very best of Scotland. We’re proud to be the gateway for that.

“All of this is possible thanks to our brilliant staff who will be keeping things moving throughout the weekend, and ensuring everyone gets to where they need to be.”
