Partnership between Emirates and ENDP to target high school graduates’ career development

Emirates National Development Programme and the Emirates Group sign MOU

The Emirates Group, one of the world leading employers in the UAE, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP) to encourage career development for high school graduates.

The MOU will specifically address the need for operational staff; such as pilots, cabin crew, engineering and airport services. Successful candidates will be placed in front-line areas such as the brand new Concourse 3 and in Emirates Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport, the newly-appointed Tawasul call centre and in Emirates Engineering facility. As the high school graduates will be the face of Emirates, representing both the company and the UAE, Emirates is looking for bright applicants with positive attitudes, with interest in the aviation industry who have great communication skills and English proficiency.

“As the aviation and tourism industries continue to expand, Emirates recognizes that there will be continuing need for qualified employees at all levels of our organisation,” said Nasser bin Kherbash, Divisional Senior Vice-President, HR Development and Employee Services. “The MOU with ENDP is the perfect approach to support our UAE citizens at the high school graduate level, developing both their talent and preparing them for career growth at Emirates, as well as filling the need for this much-needed skill set going forward.”

“Our partnership with Emirates Group, which extends today to more than 6 years, is a testament of our commitment to ensure placement of National candidates in the workforce of the UAE; recognizing that the tourism and hospitality sectors will see incredible growth going forward,” said Essa Al Mulla, Executive Director Knowledge & Human Development Authority. “As the ENDP works both to ensure that future employment needs are met and to ensure that the culture of the Emirates is woven into the fabric of our society, partnering with Emirates was the perfect fit. Emirates has a clearly stated mission to support UAE nationals and to respect the national culture through its flight services worldwide; bringing travellers into Dubai and representing the UAE abroad.”

The MOU with ENDP is just the latest step the Emirates Group has taken in further developing Emiratis early in their career. Previously Emirates has conducted road shows in conjunction with the Ministry of Education to schools across the UAE to recruit for the Cadets Pilot programme, creating the flight crews of the future, plus targeting high achievers to join Emirates across a variety of managerial, technical and hospitality functions. By reaching out directly to students in the UAE, Emirates is able to provide graduates with the insight into the workings of the Emirates Group and multiple careers paths the organisation presents. With several thousand UAE nationals currently employed, and that number continuing to grow in years to come, Emirates remains the employer of choice for citizens who are looking for challenging, fast-paced careers with the opportunity to advance and experience a multi-cultural environment.

Emiratis are drawn to the Emirates Group due to the strong development programme Emirates provides for UAE staff but also to work in a dynamic environment which encourages innovation, creativity and self-development and provides the incentives and tool for success. Additionally, working for the Emirates Group allows Nationals to represent one of the most recognized global brands from the UAE. Over 2000 UAE citizens work for Emirates, representing the 5th highest nationality in the company. Of the 2000 employees, approximately 24 percent are in senior management positions, 10 percent in middle management, 9 percent in engineering and 11 percent are in pilot roles. As of end of February 2012, Emirates has filled over 700 positions with Emiratis in the past year, an increase over the 500 hired in the past year.
